The pathology society had an art show. I was able to sell two of the three paintings I had entered, one to a former student and one to an unknown buyer. The paintings are all based on microscopic images of thyroid. Thyroid smears are incredibly beautiful under the microscope. Colloid, the material containing the thyroid hormones is a gooey substance, a liquidy bubble gum. You could imagine swimming in it, or playing with it to create unstable sculptures.
Yes, these images are based on what I know best, the microscopic world of human cells and tissues. I look into the microscope many hours every day, and have finally decided that now is the time to integrate my profession with my passion for art. More on this to follow.
